Kiewit Luminarium is Hiring an Experience Specialist Near Omaha, NE

Experience Specialist

Full-Time, Exempt Position

Kiewit Luminarium is a new, next-generation science center that joyfully engages people of all ages and identities to explore astonishing phenomena and consider something new. Already a regional draw and a national model, Kiewit Luminarium’s interactive exhibits and programs inspire lifelong interest and careers in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. Our purpose-built, 82,000 ft2 facility is located on the Omaha RiverFront, and now we are building the talented team that, together with collaborators and visitors, will bring Kiewit Luminarium to life.

The role of Experience Specialist sits at the heart of Kiewit Luminarium with guests and Luminators. Reporting to the Experience Director, the Experience Specialist will work closely with staff, including our youth development program facilitators (Luminators), to ensure an awesome guest experience. We seek an experienced leader to help support Kiewit Luminarium as an engaging, inclusive, and operationally excellent center for STEM learning. The right individual will be motivated by our mission and have the proven ability to collaborate with a diverse team in a changing environment that moves quickly from start-up to scaled operations.

About Luminators: Luminators embody our playful, inclusive, learner-centric pedagogy and are key to engaging the whole community. Luminators will receive frequent training, practice skills, and build confidence as learners and educators. They will facilitate guest experiences, lead demonstrations, and serve as vital connectors and influencers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exceed expectations for a warm welcome, stellar service, and nimble responses to issues and opportunities by thinking fast, finding answers, and responding quickly to guest issues, all in a polite, empathetic, and professional manner.
  • Show composure, resilience, and flexibility to exceed guest and staff expectations.
  • Lead the successful implementation - and participate in the ongoing development - of learning experiences that exceed expectations for joyful engagement, youth development, and operational excellence with diverse audiences.
  • Co-manage a dynamic, guest-focused team of 50 Luminators with weekend and evening hours.
  • Support Luminator recruitment, hiring, training, and ongoing development. 
  • Work across teams to ensure Luminators are scheduled to meet the organization’s needs.
  • Foster a culture of experimentation, learning reflection, and belonging.
  • Help develop and continuously improve policies, training, and procedures.
  • Exceed requirements for the safety and security of guests and staff.
  • Help build a supportive and growing community of Luminators that extends beyond the time of employment with meaningful support for program alumni.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience & Key Competencies:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in program management and supervision, preferably in a visitor or guest-focused environment.
  • Experience with positive development models for youth or emerging adults.
  • Demonstrated experience in front-line customer relations and complaint resolution.
  • Excellent people management, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and adapt to complex, fast-paced situations.
  • Cross-cultural fluency and ability to work with diverse people.
  • Available to frequently work weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • English proficiency is required; bilingual skills are an asset (especially Spanish).
  • Ability to move quickly through the museum and spend long periods on the floor.

  • Ability to move from place to place; lift and carry up to 40 pounds short distances.
  • Ability to perform position functions and must be able and willing to work on-site, in shared indoor and outdoor space with staff and the public following guidelines in accordance with the health department and local ordinances.

Experience Specialists receive competitive annual salary, commensurate with experience, $60k .
